Hi! Its been an age since I've written on here. Its been a busy old time!!!! I've lost track of how many books I've been involved with, I'll try an post some of them up.

I just finished a little sketch for a pitch on a book and it occurred to me that every time I come up with an idea and do a little thumb nail, when I work it up into a proper drawing or painting, all the life gets drained out! So annoying! Are there any other artists out there you feel the same?
How do you get over it?

Here is the image. Tell me your thoughts.... ;-)

  1. Yup.... happens to me all the time. The thumbnail is where all the life is, and the refined image becomes stale and too drawn - even though it may still be nice!
Try enlarging the scan of the thumbnail so it is of a size you might work at, and then refine it only a little. Maybe when it is larger you can see what needs to stay, and what could do with a little adjustment - but let the sketch lines stay. And if you can master it, let us know how it is done!
